Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy has once again questioned the “motive” of some foreign missions stationed in Dhaka, especifically the US Embassy, for their activities which try to hatch conspiracies  against Bangladesh.

“I’m not telling (you) a few countries but their diplomatic missions, especifically the US Embassy here, try to hatch conspiracies  when Bangladesh is marching towards progress,” he said.

Joy was interacting with a group of youths at a programme titled  ‘Youth on Politics, a session of Young Bangla with Sajeeb Wazed’ which was aired by a private television on Friday night.

“What’s their motive? They (a few foreign missions) don’t want to see a strong government here. They want a (weak) government which will function at their dictate,” Joy said responding to a question.

Sharing his personal experience, Joy said he found Jamaat men and war criminals invited in US Embassy programmes.

He also said the US Embassy here has turned into a ‘den of Jamaat and war criminals’.

“Do we want a weak government?” he posed a question to the youths urging them to remain alert about such conspiracies.

Joy also questioned the statements made by a few foreign missions here even after the immediate arrest of suspected killers of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

“We didn’t spend time… suspected killers had been arrested,” he said adding that those who are making it an issue their intention is not to seek justice but to take advantage of it.

Joy said some foreign missions issued statements saying there was a violation of freedom of expression. “What’s the motive?”

The event was organised by the ruling Awami League’s research wing Centre for Research and Information or CRI at a Dhaka hotel recently.

“They always invite them. The US Embassy has become their (Jamaat and war criminals) base. And together with them, they always do conspiracies,” Joy said.

“Do we want such a submissive government that will work according to the US Embassy’s  whim? Do we want a such government? He asked the youths. “Do we want to lose our independence? Do we want to lose our ‘Joy Bangla’?

Joy urged the young Bangladeshis to become entrepreneurs and create jobs for others as well instead of focusing on getting jobs for themselves after their study.

Earlier, Joy in a Facebook post in July, after Priya Saha’s comment on Bangladesh’s minority’s conditions, said, “It’s no secret that the US Embassy is decidedly anti-Awami League…”
