Global Covid-19 cases top 62.6 million

The total number of global coronavirus cases exceeded 62.6 million on Monday, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

Besides, the deaths have surged to more than 1.45 million, the data shows.

The number of total Covid-19 cases globally reached 62,677,879 with 1,458,360 deaths.

 

Covid-19 has hit 191 countries since the first cases were reported from China in December last year.

The US has reported 13,376,113 cases since the start of the pandemic and the country’s fatalities have climbed to 266,838.

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in the United States topped 200,000 for the first time Friday, according to data from the university. Since January, when the first infections were reported in the U.S., the nation’s total number of cases has surpassed 13 million. More than 265,000 people have died, reports AP.

The nation’s top infectious disease expert said Sunday that the U.S. may see “surge upon a surge” of the coronavirus in the weeks after Thanksgiving, and he does not expect current recommendations around social distancing to be relaxed before Christmas.

India comes in second place in terms of cases at 9,392,919, while the country’s death toll soared to 136,696.

Brazil registered 172, 833 deaths while the country’s total caseload reached 6,314,740 as of Monday.

 

The countries with a death toll above 20,000 are Mexico with 105,459 deaths, the UK with 58,342, Italy with 54,904, France with 52,410, Iran with 47,874, Spain with 44,668 and Russia with 39,127.
