At least three people died and three others fell ill after drinking liquor in Hosniganj area of Rajshahi district early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Faisal, 28, son of Ainul Islam, hailing from the area, Sazal, 25, son of Rafiqul Islam, from Shantapara area in Bagmara upazila of the district and Shagar, 25, son of Uttam, from Bakir Mor area.

Tuhin, 26, son of late Lutfur Rahman, hailing from Hetmkha area, Kalap, 22, son of Habib, from the same area, are now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hosptial (RMCH) in critical condition.

Majharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajpara Police Station, said five people took the alcohol after purchasing it from a local shop on Friday evening and fell sick.

Later, locals took them to the hospital where duty doctor declared three of them dead, he said.
