The authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) are mulling to approve third phase trial proposal of Chinese pharmaceutical company Anhui Zhifei’s Covid-19 vaccine.

The BSMMU received a letter from China’s Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biologic Pharmacy on Sunday. Earlier on September 2, it received the first letter, Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, vice chancellor of BSMMU, confirmed the matter.

It should be mentioned here that another Chinese company ‘Sinovac Ltd’ backtracked from their proposal of conducting third phase trial of its vaccine with icddr,b in Bangladesh on the pretext of “fund shortage”.

In its proposal, the Anhui Zhifei, according to officials, said the company will bear the cost for the trial. Besides, it will take the initiative to set a vaccine production plant in Bangladesh if the vaccine passes the trial.
