Step will be taken for quick disposal of death references, appeals of Nusrat Killing: AG

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said his office will take necessary steps for expediting disposal of death references and appeals over Feni Madrassa student Nusrat killing.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Feni on October 24 awarded death sentence to all 16 accused including sacked madrasa principal Siraj Ud Doula and Awami League leader Ruhul Amin in the case.

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court received death references sent by the lower court on Tuesday.

Now, the concerned section of the apex court will have to prepare paper-book, a booklet containing copies or abstracts of the pleadings and other papers exchanged between the parties and of the facts necessary to a complete understanding of a case.

About the case, Attorney General said he will talk to the Chief Justice so that the paper-book of the case is prepared soon.

Addressing reporters at his office on Wednesday, Mahbubey Alam said the people of the country expect that Nusrat murder case is settled at the High Court soon.

The 19-year-old Nusrat Jahan Rafi lost her battle for life on April 10, four days after she was set afire. She was sexually harassed by the then principal Siraj on March 27. Her mother filed a case against Siraj resulting in his arrest. Being infuriated, the principal held a meeting with some of his students and associates at the jail premises and planned to kill Nusrat. Accordingly, the assigned students took Nusrat to rooftop of Madrassa and launched arson attack.

Other death row convicts in the case are: former member of the governing body and acting general secretary of Sonagazi municipality unit AL Maksudul Alam, madrasa teachers Abdul Kader, and Afsar Uddin, madrasa students Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zubayer, Javed Hossain alias Shakhawat Hossain,  Kamrunnahar Moni, Umme Sultana Poppy, Abdur Rahim Sharif, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain Mamun, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Nuruddin, and Shahadat Hossain Shamim.
