At least five persons including four children were killed and seven others injured critically in a gas cylinder blast at Rupnagar of Mirpur in the capital.
The deceased were identified as Ramjan, 8, Nupur, 7, Shahin, 9, Farzana, 6, Akter, 7, and an unidentified person.
The incident took place at around 3:00pm on Wednesday.
The injured — Jannat, 25, Jubaer, 8, Sadekur, 10, Nahid, 7, Jamil, 14, Moriam, 8, and an unidentified person — were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Confirming the news, Abdul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) Rupnagar Police Station, said the gas cylinder exploded when a vendor was inflating a balloon near a school this afternoon, leaving the five children dead on the spot and four others injured.
