Global Covid cases approach 104 million

The world is nearing the grim milestone of 104 million Covid-19 cases, despite a drop in the number of new infections for the third week in a row.
The total global Covid caseload reached 103,847,377 while the deaths from the virus infection touched 2,251,944 on Wednesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The world’s most powerful country, the US remained the globe’s worst-hit, with 26,431,145 Covid cases and 446,746deaths, as per the university data.
Brazil registered 54,096 new Covid-19 infections and 1,210 deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours, raising the total caseload to 9,283,418 and the death toll to 226,309, the Brazilian Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
Brazil, which has the world’s second-largest Covid death toll after the United States, has seen more than 1,000 deaths a day on an average in the past three weeks.
So far, neighbouring India has recorded 10,766,245 Covid cases and 154,586 deaths, according to the Health Ministry.
