An elderly man was killed by his nephew following a trifling matter at Bhaturia Naranpur village in Chanchra union of Jashore Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, 60, son of late Mokshed Ali, hailing from the area.

Police arrested killer Alal, 28, son of Rawshan Ali, hailing from the same area, in this connection.
Locals said Abul Kashem went to Narayanpur intersection to take tea after Fajr prayers on Thursday morning. At one stage, Alal hacked Kashem’s head with a sharp weapon (locally known as boti) following an argument at 7:00 am, leaving him injured.

Locals rescued Kashem and took him to Jeshore General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Inspector Rakibul Islam, in-charge of Chanchra Police Outpost, confirmed the matter.
