Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) central committee on Sunday expelled one of its leaders of the Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute unit and suspended all organisational activities of that unit for humiliating the principal of the institute.
The expelled BCL leader is—Kamal Hossain Sourav, Joint General Secretary of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute unit.
The decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the BCL executive committee of the central committee.
After the meeting, a press release signed by the acting President Al-Nahean Khan Joy and acting General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee was issued announcing the decision.
The press release also said that all organisational activities of the Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute unit BCL have been suspended.
On Saturday afternoon, a group of BCL men pushed Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute Principal Farid Uddin Ahmed into a pond on the campus as he refused to allow two students to fill up forms for examination for inadequate class attendance.
The incident triggered a protest among students and teachers of the institution and on Sunday morning they demanded punishment of the miscreants.
Meanwhile, teachers of the institute went on a work abstention from Sunday as the offenders involved in the incident were not arrested by Saturday night.
Following the emerging situation, the Rajshahi Metropolitan BCL unit president sought organisational directives against the offenders of the party.
