Four namaj-e-janazas of Khoka to be held in Dhaka

The BNP leader and also a valiant freedom fighter Sadeque Hossain Khoka will be buried at the Jurain graveyard on Thursday after completion of a total of four namaj-e-janazas in Dhaka.

BNP’s Dhaka divisional organizing secretary Abdus Salam Azad and the APS Bazrul Islam Kiran of Sadeque Hossain Khoka informed the news to media on Tuesday afternoon.

The body of the former undivided Dhaka City mayor is expected to arrive in Bangladesh from the USA on Thursday morning as all necessary preparations are completed.

His first namaj-e-janaza was held at 8:30am (Bangladesh time) today (Tuesday) at Jamaica Muslim Heights in USA.

Ishraque, the son of the BNP leader, said that his father will be buried at Jurain Graveyard beside the graves of his parents as per his last wish.

Several janazas will be held at different places in the capital, including in front of the BNP central office, South Plaza of the National Parliament, in front of the Nagar Bhaban and the Gopibagh residence, Ishraque added.

Sadeque Hossain Khoka, 67, died around 1:50pm (BST) on Monday in USA, had long been suffering from cancer.

Khoka had been undergoing treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York since October 18 for cancer with some other health complications.

The former mayor is survived by his wife Ismat Ara, daughter Sarika Sadeque, sons Ishraque, Isfaque Hossain and a host of relatives, followers and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Sadeque Hossain Khoka along with his wife went to the USA in 2014 for treatment while the validity of their passports expired in 2017.
