4 of a family among 5 killed in Sylhet road crash

Five persons, including 4 members of a family, were killed and two others injured as a truck hit a CNG-run autorickshaw on Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Ferighat area in Jaintiapur upazila of Sylhet on Sunday morning.

The truck hit the autorickshaw at the area at around 6:40am, leaving four of a family — two women and two children — and the auto-rickshaw driver dead on spot, said Dastagir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Jaintiapur Police Station.

The deceased are identified as Sadia Begum, 35, her four-month old baby Sahadat Hossan, daughter Sabia Begum,7, her sister-in-law Habibunnesa, 33, from Jaintiapur’s Rupcheng village; and the autorickshaw driver Hossain Ahmed, 35, of the upazila’s Pakhibil village.

 

The critically injured are deceased Sadia’s brother-in-law Md Jakaria, 50 and his wife Hasina Begum (40).

They were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, he said.
