Police recovered the bodies of a woman and her minor girl buried in their yard at Hatimpur village in Patharghata upazila of Barguna on Saturday morning, two days after they went missing.

The deceased were identified as Sumaiya Akter, 18, daughter of Ripon Badsha and her 9-month-old daughter Samia Akter Jui, hailing from the area.

Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pathaghata Police Station, said locals spotted a new hole near Shahin’s house this morning and informed the police.

Shahin, 35, husband of the deceased woman, went into hiding after the incident.

Meanwhile, Sumaiya’s mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law and brother-in-law have been detained for questioning, OC Bashar said, adding that they were also trying to arrest Shahin.

The OC also said that the woman and her minor daughter might have been killed over family feud.

The bodies were sent to Barguna General Hospital morgue for autopsies, he said.
