The High Court (HC) ordered the government ‘for the last time’ to rename within 90 days streets and installations named after anti-liberation persons across the country.
The court set February 23 to submit compliance report in this regard.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard.
The court in its order asked to rename those streets and installations after the freedom fighters of respective localities.
Dhaka University professor and historian Dr Muntassir Mamun and journalist Shahriar Kabir filed the writ in 2012, and after holding primary hearing on the matter, the High Court on May 14, 2012, issued a rule asking as to why it shall not pass order to rename such streets and installations.
But the order is yet to be implemented and that is why the court has allowed time to comply with the order for the last time.
Barrister AK Rashidul Haque moved the case for the petitioners, while deputy attorney general Amit Das Gupta appeared for the state.
