Barishal clash: Court grants bail to 9 accused

A Barishal court on Wednesday granted bail to nine out of 21 accused, arrested over the recent clash at an UNO’s house in Barisal.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Billah passed the order after holding hearing on bail petition.

Those who got bail include leaders and activists of local unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League and BCC staffers.

 

Earlier, a clash took place between the supporters of the AL, BCL, and members of Ansar when the latter two allegedly tried to attack the residence of the UNO at Sadar Upazila Complex in Barishal on August 18.

At least seven people suffered bullet wounds and 25 others were injured in clashes among police and Ansar personnel and Awami League leaders and activists.

Later, police and the upazila administration filed two cases on August 19, against 122 Chhatra League and Jubo League activists and Barisal City Corporation (BCC) officials.

As many as 500 unnamed people were also made accused in these cases.
