Md Tawfiq Iqbal, Professor of department of Agronomy and Agricultural Extension at Rajshahi University (RU), died of Covid-19 at a hospital in the capital on Monday afternoon. He was 49.
He breathed his last at 1:45pm while undergoing treatment.
Tawfiq joined Rajshahi University as a lecturer in 2003 and was promoted to professor in 2013. In addition, he has served as a visiting professor at two universities in Turkey and Germany.
He was born in 1972 in Sadar upazila of Bhola district. He obtained BAG (Hons) in Agricultural Engineering from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1993 and MS degree in Farm Power and Machinery in 1995. In 2012, he obtained a PhD in soil science and plant nutrition from La Trobe University in Australia.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar and deputy vice-chancellor Professor Chowdhury Zakaria and Professor Sultan-ul-Islam expressed deep shock at the death of Iqbal.
