Md Nizamul Huq, retired justice of the appellate division of the Supreme Court, has been appointed as the Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.
He will serve as the Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council for the next three years from the date of joining.
He was appointed as chairman of ICT-1 on March 25, 2010 for holding trials of those accused of 1971 war crimes.
Huq was a treasurer and lawyer for the Bangladesh human rights organisation Odhikar before joining the High Court.
He was first appointed judge of the High Court by President Shahabuddin Ahmed, a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Huq was reappointed to the High Court by President Zillur Rahman, on 24 March 2009.
