A Rajshahi court on Tuesday sentenced five men to death for killing a college student in 2010.
Judge of Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar pronounced the verdict in presence of the accused this afternoon.
The convicts are: Azizur Rahman alias Rajan, Sajjad Hossain alias Saju, Md Rinku alias Boya of Darikharbona of Rajshahi city, Ismail Hossain of Brambhapur village in Durgapur upazila and Mahabur Rashid alias Rentu of Madariganj village in Bagmara upazila.
The student named Raju Ahmed was stabbed to death by convicts on the night of 15 March 2010 behind a restaurant at the western end of New Market of Rajshahi. He was an HSC candidate of Daokandi Degree College of Durgapur in Rajshahi.
Hailing from Hasnipur village of Bagmara upazila, he used to stay with a friend at the Mannaf junction in the city.
Locals rescued Raju and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He died that night while undergoing treatment there.
In the next day, victim’s father Essar Uddin filed a murder case with the Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi.
