18 Jamaat leaders held in Sherpur

Police arrested eighteen Jamaat leaders in Narayanpur Bagbari of Sherpur Town on Monday evening.

Bande Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sherpur Sadar Police Station, said on secrete information based of the National Intelligence Agency, a team of police cordoned off at a private hospital named ‘Darus Shifa’ and arrested them while they were holding a clandestine meeting inside it .

He said, the detainees are being interrogated and investigated, adding that the legal action is being taken against them.

Eleven of them identified as Choton, 50, a former driver of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Kamaruzzaman, who was hanged for crimes against humanity in 1971, Jammat leader Abdur Rauf, 48, Golam Kibria, 36, Rafiqul Islam, 40, Sams Uddin (60), Anisur Rahman (50), Shafiqul Islam (52) of Sajbarkhila mahalla, Bulbul Ahmed (55) of Kandapara mahalla, Abdul Monaf Khan (48) of Digharpar mahalla and Abdur Rauf, 40, son of Abdul Bari of Jhenaigati upazila. Golam Mostafa (54) of Jangaldi village of Charpakshimari union of Sadar upazila.
