Road crashes kill 4 in Cumilla

Four people were killed and another injured in separate road accidents in Cumilla on Tuesday.

Three people, including a couple, were killed when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw in Bipulsar area under Monohorgonj upazila of Cumilla.

The deceased were identified as Saima Muntaha, 22, Ruhul Amin, 65 and his wife Sefali Akter, 55. All of them hailing from the area.

 

Zafar Ahmed, in-charge of Nather Petua Investigation Center, said the accident occurred at 10:00am when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Ekushey Paribahan’ hit the auto-rickshaw carrying the victims while overtaking another bus on Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway, leaving its three passengers dead on the spot and its driver injured.

Injured auto-rickshaw driver Khokon Mia is undergoing treatment at Cumilla Medical College and Hospital.

In another incident, a man named Liton, son of late Kabirul Islam of Dubail village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, was killed when a covered van hit a microbus carrying him in Parua Bazar area on Dhaka-Chattogram highway of Cumilla on Tuesday morning, said Khorshed Alam, sub-inspector of Moynamoti Highway Police Station.
