Hundreds of students from various educational institutions in Dhaka have blocked Bakshibazar road protesting rape threats made by a local bus driver and helper after a female student offered half fare.

The students, mostly from Begum Badrunnesa College, took up positions in the road adjacent to their institution and shouted slogans demanding arrest of the bus driver and the helper.

The agitating students have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the government to bring the driver and helper to justice and ensure half bus fare for all students.

They will protest again on Monday if their demands are not met, they said.

Earlier on Saturday, students of Dhaka City College, Dhaka College, Imperial College and Ideal College vandalised around 30 buses near the Science Lab intersection and Elephant road in demand of half bus fare.
