A student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) died early Monday in Rajshahi allegedly after drinking excessive liquor.

The deceased is Masrur Muhit,a student of Department of Mechanical Engineering of the university and son of Abdul Mannan of Ullapara in Sirajganj.

Masrur was admitted to Ward No. 16 of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital at 8:15 pm on Sunday. Doctors declared him dead around 1:15 pm.

Professor Md Rukunuzzaman of the department said one of the students of our department has died. “I heard that he died after drinking toxic alcohol.”

Officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station Anwar Hossain Tuhin said, “The cause of the death will be known once we get the autopsy report.”

An unnatural death case was filed with Motihar police station, he added.
