Former Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) organising secretary and Daily Shomoyer Alo Senior Reporter Habibur Rahman was killed in a motorcycle accident at Hatirjheel area in the capital early Wednesday.

He sustained critical injuries after his motorcycle hit a footpath near Begunbari area around 2:30am, said Sub-inspector Enamul Haque, duty officer of Hatirjheel Police Station.

Pedestrians took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said that the body was kept at hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Hailing from Cumilla, he was father of a child.

Habib entered the profession after completing BA Hons and MA in Journalism from Dhaka University.

Jatiya Press Club President Farida Yasmin and other journalist leaders and professional colleagues condoled the death and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
