HC clears way for actor Zayed to act as BFAA general secretary

The High Court has halted the appellate board’s decision which declared actress Nipun as the newly-elected general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artiste Association (BFAA) voiding candidacy of film hero Zayed Khan.
A division bench comprising Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice KhandakerDiliruzzaman passed the order acting on a writ petition filed by Zayed Khan who challenged the appellate board decision.
The apex court issued a rule requiring the authorities concerned to clarify why the appellate board’s decision shall not be declared voided.
The court decided to hold further hearing on February 15.
On February 5, Sohanur Rahman Sohan, head of the appellate division, announced both Zayed Khan and executive panel member Chunnu, disqualified for allegedly breaching the code of conduct under section 10 of the election rules.
On January 28, the electiion authority declared Zayed Khan elected BFAA general secretary for the tenure of 2022-24.
