Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Kaisarul Islam came up with the order of warrant of proclamation and attachment of property on Tuesday. The court also asked officers-in-charge (OCs) of concerned police stations to place reports regarding execution of the order by January 1.

On November 13, Inspector Mohammad Wahiduzaman of Detective Branch, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.

Of the 25 charge-sheeted accused, 17 are members of the BUET BCL unit. Most of them have been expelled by the pro-Awami League student body. BUET suspended 19 of the accused.

According to investigators, eleven of the 25 directly took part in the killing as they either hit Abrar with cricket stumps, skipping rope or slapped him for hours, leading to his death.

On November 18, a Dhaka court accepted the charge sheet and issued warrants against four fugitives.

Abrar, 22, was found dead on a staircase of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET in the early hours of October 7, after he was taken to the dormitory’s Room No 2011 around 8pm on October 6 and beaten mercilessly by Chhatra League men late into the night.Barkat Ullah, father of Abrar, filed the killing case at Chawkbazar Police Station in Dhaka accusing 19 people, mostly leaders, and activists of BUET Chhatra League unit.

Amid students’ protest, the authorities of BUET on October 11 banned all political activities on the campus and suspended the 19 students accused in the case.
