The authority of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall of Dhaka University (DU) has fined the hall canteen Tk 10,000 for serving substandard and unhealthy food.
The hall Provost Prof Mohammad Bellal Hossain conducted the raids along with the hall unit Chhatra League President Azharul Islam Mamun and General Secretary Hasibul Hossen Shanto on Friday and Saturday.
During the raids, the Provost Prof Bellal Hossain told Daily Sun that they found several irregularities in the hall canteen.
“As a result, I have fined the canteen owner Tk 10,000. Earlier I had also fined the canteen Tk 5,000 last month,” he said.
“I am visiting the canteen on a regular basis.I gave a warning to the canteen owner. If these irregularities are found in the future, the contract with him will be canceled,” he added.
Hasibul Hossen Shanto, the hall unit Chhatra League General Secretary said, “The students had many complaints about the quality of food. We informed the Provost about this and went to visit the canteen.We found a number of irregularities such as uncleanliness, substandard food, selling food at a higher price than the fixed price there.The canteen owner was fined Tk 10,000.”
“The hall Chhatra League has always been by the side of the students and will continue such activities in the future,” he added.
The hall unit Chhatra League President Azharul Islam Mamun said, “We went to the canteen with our hall Provost after learning about the students’ complaints about food quality and we found some irregularities there. Due to which Provost Sir fined the owner. We will always strive to ensure that everything in our hall is beneficial to the students.”
