Today is the 3rd death anniversary of legendary singer Shahnaz Rahmatullah. The singer passed away on March 23 in 2019.

Shahnaz Rahmatullah began her career as a playback singer with the film ‘Notun Sur’ (1963).  She first performed on television in 1964. She mostly sang modern (Adhunik Gaan) and patriotic songs.

Four of Rahmatullah’s songs were selected in a BBC survey of 20 greatest Bangla songs of all times.

Her notable songs are ‘Ekbar Jete De Na Amar Chotto Sonar Gaye’, ‘Je Chilo Drishtir Shimanay’,‘Ek Tara Tui Desher Kotha’, ‘Amar Desher Matir Gondhe’, ‘Amai Jodi Proshno Kore’ and ‘Shagorer Teer Theke’, ‘Manik Shey Toh Manik Noy’.

Shahnaz Rahmatullah received Ekushey Padak in 1992 and Bangladesh National Film Award as Best Female Playback Singer in 1990.
