Dhaka College authorities have suspended all classes and examinations for today in the wake last night’s clash between students and traders outside New Market.
The decision was announced in a notice posted on the college’s website and Facebook page on Tuesday.
“Due to unavoidable reasons, all classes and examinations of Dhaka College’s higher secondary and honours-masters programmes scheduled for Tuesday, Apr 19 have been suspended. All teachers are requested to be at the college by 10 am,” the notice read.
Around midnight on Monday, a clash ensued between the college students and the traders, with the latter alleging that few of their peers were thrashed and stabbed by a couple of shopkeepers when they had gone to the market for shopping.
Police lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control after nearly four hours.
Traffic on Mirpur Road came to a halt for a few hours due to the clash, in which some cops also sustained injuries.
