AL-backed lawyers win bar council polls

The ruling Awami League-backed lawyers’ panel Sammilito Ainjibi Samannoy Parishad swept the election to the Bangladesh Bar Council, official election results said.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, chairman of the bar council, announced the official results of the election early Sunday.

Sammilita Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, the AL-backed lawyers’ panel, bagged 10 out of the total 14 posts, while the pro-BNP lawyers’ Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel won the remaining four posts.

 

The AL-blessed contenders have bagged four posts among seven general posts and six among seven group posts.

The winners from the white panel of government supporters are: Advocate Mohammad Saeed Ahmed Raja (16,433 votes, highest), Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman (16,093 votes), Advocate Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman Badal (16,744 votes) and Advocate Md. Rabiul Alam Budu (15 thousand 26 votes).

The 6 candidates who won the group seat of this panel are- Dhaka Region Bar Association (Group-A) Abdul Baten, Greater Mymensingh, Tangail, Faridpur District Bar Association (Group-B) Md. Jalal Uddin Khan, Greater Comilla District and Sylhet District Bar Association (Group-D) AF Mohammad. Ruhul Anam Chowdhury, Greater Khulna, Barisal and Patuakhali Region Bar Association (Group-E) Anish Uddin Ahmed Shahid, Greater Rajshahi, Jessore and Kushtia Region Bar Association (Group-F) Md. Ekramul Haque and Greater Dinajpur, Rangpur, Bogra and Pabna District Bar Association (Group-G) said. Abdur Rahman has won.

Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon (18,611 votes), Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal (15,985 votes) and Advocate Zainul Abedin (14,796 votes) are the three pro-BNP candidates who have won the general seats. The only winning candidate in the group seat from this panel is ASM Badrul Anwar in the Bar Association of Greater Chittagong and Noakhali District (Group-C).

The official results were declared at the bar council auditorium at night 4-day after the polls were held throughout the country on May 25.
