3 get death, 6 life term for murdering businessman in Mymensingh

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death and six others to life imprisonment for murdering a businessman in Mymensingh in 2013.

Judge Monir Kamal of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 pronounced the verdict.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each.

 

The death row convict are Nowshad, Shahabuddin and Sabuj while life awardees are Maram, Mahim, Karim, Jasim, Mia Hossain and Jalal Uddin.

The court, however, acquitted Islam, Emdadul, Kudrat Ali and Hashen Ali, as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.

According to the case statement, the convicts attacked Ujjal Miah of Batihala village of Dhobaura upazila, over land dispute while the victim was returning from the annual Dolayatra Mela on a motorcycle on March 27, 2013 at around 9 pm, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, Ujjal was taken to Dhobaura Hospital and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

Ujjwal’s elder brother Kudrat Ali filed a murder case with Dhobaura Police Station in this regard.
