Four more people were arrested in the brutal killings of Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samiya Afnan Prity in Shahjahanpur area of the capital.
Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them from different areas in Dhaka on Saturday night.
The arrestees were identified as Titu, Robin, Sohel alias Ghatak Sohel and Khairul Islam.
Confirming the news, Harun-or-Rashid, additional commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch, said their names came up during the interrogation of other accused arrested earlier.
With them, at least 18 persons have been arrested in the double murder case so far.
Tipu, former general secretary of Motijheel Awami League, was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon home on the night of March 24. He was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area as his vehicle got stuck in traffic.
Rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was also got shot by stray bullets and died on the spot. Tipu’s driver Munna got shot on his hand in the incident.
Following his death, Tipu’s wife, Ward Councillor Farhana Islam Dolly, filed a case without naming suspects.
