The prices of eggs and fishes have increased again at the kitchen markets in the capital, causing serious trouble for the fixed-income people.

The spiralling prices of the two essential food items declined somewhat last week due to the market monitoring by the government authorities.

Farm egg was selling at Tk 130 a dozen, this correspondent found during his visit to Mohammadpur Krishi Market in the capital on Friday.

The price of egg increased to Tk 160 a dozen last month, but it fell to Tk 120 last week.

Ripon Hossain, an egg seller at the market, said egg price declined last week due to the falling demand for the essential food item.

“The retail price of egg has gone up again at the kitchen markets in the capital because of a sudden hike in its wholesale price,” he added.

The price of broiler chicken price also increased to Tk 180 per kg from Tk 170 per kg in a week.  Sonali chicken was selling at Tk 280-300 per kg.

The prices of broiler chicken and egg have spiralled by 3.13 percent and 8.97 percent respectively in a week, according to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

The price of big-size Rohu fish has increased to Tk 400-450 per kg from Tk 320-380 while medium-size Rohu fish to Tk 300-350 per kg from Th 250-280 in a week.

Telapia and Pangas fishes were selling at the high prices of Tk 170-200 per kg.

The price of Mrigel fish shot up to Tk 300 per kg from Tk 280 per kg while shrimp price soared to Tk 1,000 per kg.

Shing was selling at Tk 500 per kg while Pabda at Tk 350-500 per kg.

Some traders said fish prices have increased due to the supply crunch against the consumer demand.

Onion price has fallen to Tk 40-45 per kg from Tk 45-50 as the supply of the spice to the market has increased.

Price of green chili skyrocketed to Tk 200 per kg last month, but its price dropped to Tk 40-50 per kg since last week.

Price of earlier variety bean declined to Tk 120-140 per kg from Tk 150 per kg in a week and cauliflower was sold at Tk 30-40 per piece.

Tomato was sold at Tk 100-130, carrot was sold at Tk 120-130 per kg and yardlong bean was sold at Tk 70-80 per kg.

Brinjal was sold at Tk 50-70 per kg while spiny gourd at Tk 50-70 per kg, green papaya at Tk 20-25 per kg, pointed gourd at Tk 40-50 per kg, snake gourd at Tk 40-50 per kg and bitter gourd at Tk 60-80 per kg.
