At least nine people died while two others were critically injured in a massive fire at a cloth godown in Delhi’s Kirari area of India, a fire official said.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday around 12:30 am.
The fire started on the ground floor of the four-storied building, where the godown is located, and subsequently spread till the third floor.The cause of the fire is not known yet but it is suspected that it was a gas cylinder blast.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by 3.50 am, a Delhi Fire Service official said.
The nine people who died in the fire were reportedly from the same family. So far, eight victims have been identified while a woman is yet to be identified.
When firefighters reached the spot to douse the flames, 12 people were trapped inside the building including women and children.
They were rescued and admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and other nearby hospitals.
