A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed three leaders of Muktijuddha Mancha on a three-day remand in connection with a case over attack on vice president of DUCSU Nurul Haque Nur and his supporters on Sunday.
The remanded persons are: general secretary of a faction of Muktijuddha Mancha Al Mamun, its office secretary Mehedi Hasan Shanto and general secretary of its Dhaka University unit Arafat Turjo.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Moinul Islam passed the order after inspector (investigation) of Shahbag Police Station Arifur Rahman Sardar, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the trio before the court with a five-day remand prayer.
Eariler on the day, sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station Rais Uddin filed a case against 30-35 leaders and activists of Muktijoddho Mancha, including Al Mamun and Yasir Arafat Turjo, for their alleged involvement in Sunday’s attack on Nurul Haque Nur and his supporters.
Members of law enforcing agencies arrested the three leaders of Muktijuddha Mancha– Mamun, Turjo, Shanto– for the attack.
On Monday, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mamun and Turjo, while cops of Shahbag Police Station arrested Shanto on Tuesday.
On Sunday, at least thirty activists of the Parishad, including DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, came under an attack reportedly by the activists of Muktijoddha Mancha in DUCSU office. They were admitted to the DMCH for treatment.
Witnesses said the attack was carried out when Nur along with some activists of Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad was holding a meeting at DUCSU office around 1:00 pm.
Thirty others, including the Parishad convener Hasan al Mamun, Joint convener Mohammad Rashed Khan, Faruk Hossain, were injured in the attack.
Hasan al Mamun alleged that Aminul Islam Bulbul, president of Muktijuddha Mancha, a platform of freedom fighters’ descendants, led the attack.
