A metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka on Sunday allowed the police to take former Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker for reserved seat for women, Sultana Ahmed, under their custody for two days for interrogation in a case with Paltan Police Station under Digital Security Act allegedly for making derogatory comments on prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Metropolitan magistrate Shahidur Islam passed the order against Sultana, also the general secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, responding to a petition filed by Paltan Police Station sub-inspector Ashraful Alam seeking the court’s permission to take her under their custody for five days for interrogation in the case.

Gopalganj district Chhatra League’s former president Abdul Hamid filed the case against Sultana on Sunday and a team of Rapid Action Battalion arrested her at her Gulshan home in Dhaka and handed her to the Paltan Police Station, said the police station officer-in-charge Salahuddin.

According to the case documents, the former BCL leader alleged that the ex-BNP MP made derogatory comments on Hasina during a party programme on September 1, 2022.
