An elderly woman was slaughtered allegedly by her son at Doail Purbapara village of Doail union under Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Saleha Begum, 62, wife of late Alhajj Hatem Ali, of the area.

Saleha Begum was living with her son Masud for last couple of years.

Villagers caught killer Masud, 26 and handed over him to police after the incident.

Mufti Md Habibur Rahman, elder son of deceased, said that Masud entered into their house and slaughtered his mother with a sharp knife at 7:00 am in the morning.

Confirming the news, Md Majedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Staion, said on information police recovered the body of the woman and sent it to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The OC also said that the killer was sent to Jamalour court after filling a case against him.
