Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan stressed upon the requirements of hard training on own initiative even though the national team is currently without any guardian following the resignation of Russell Domingo.

According to Mehidy, it’s the players who would have to take the main responsibility as the coach’s task is to devise the plan.

“As a player, everyone knows about their own preparation, their own work. I know how to improve myself or what is my preparation. In the end the players have to play and play well. Their preparation is important,” Mehidy said here today as he started practice session for his BPL Fortune Barishal at the BCB Academy Ground.

“We have to work to fix the mistakes what we have done. The domestic cricket is good place to know how your preparation is going on. It’s the platform to know how we like to play or what problems we have somewhere.”

Shakib Al Hasan strongly believes that 2023 will be the year of achievement for Bangladesh cricket. He has said several times with great confidence, “2023 will be the best year in our cricket history.”

However, Bangladesh cricket will have to spend the first three months of the year without a head coach.

At the end of last year, head coach Russell Domingo had resigned from his post. Bangladesh will return to international cricket in March with white-ball series against England. BCB will appoint a new coach before that series. It is heard that BCB is bringing Chandika Hathurusingha back again. Under him, Bangladesh can play ODI World Cup in October-November in India.

Mehidy showed his improvement in white-ball cricket in the last year. He had scored 330 runs and took 24 wickets in 15 matches in ODIs. He also played two match winning innings that helped Bangladesh win an ODI series against mighty India at home.

However, he wants to keep the performance going on like this in the future.

“We have a big event in 2023 like ODI World Cup. All our plans will be made around the World Cup. I will mentally prepare myself on how to improve. The World Cup is a big event. That’s why you have to prepare in that way. It will be better for us if we start prepare from now. If we can pull the consistency with which we have been playing then it will definitely be good for the team,” he said.

Bangladesh had already qualified to the World Cup by showing consistent performance in ICC ODI Super League where they have 12 wins in 18 matches. Still they have six matches–three against England and three against Ireland.

“Even though we have already qualified we need good results in these coming matches. If we do well, we will be able to strengthen our position and take good confidence in the ODI World Cup,” he informed.

Mehidy made his debut in international cricket during Chandika Hathurusingha’s tenure. Many believe that Hathurusingha’s return may make his job easier.

But Mehidy thinks one can survive in the national team by performing regularly.

“If I can’t perform, I can’t make it to the national team, no matter which coach comes. Here you have to perform and play well. If I perform, I can play for a long time, which will be good for my career,” he concluded.
