Humayun Faridi’s 11th death anniv today

Legendary actor and theatre activist Humayun Faridi’s 11th death anniversary will be observed today. Different socio-cultural organisations have arranged various programmes to mark the  day.

Besides, satellite TV channels will air an array of programme paying tribute to the late actor.

The artiste, who worked in television dramas, movies and theatre plays, was born on May 29 at Narinda in Dhaka in 1952.

 

Humayun Faridi also fought in Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.

After independence, he got admitted to Jahangirnagar University to study Economics. Faridi’s expedition in showbiz began as a leading organiser of Jahangirnagar University’s 1976 Drama Festival. There he came to notice of renowned cultural personality Nasiruddin Yousuff, who was attending the festival as a judge.

In 1978, he began theatre acting career with the play ‘Shakuntala’.

Faridi debuted in television dramas through ‘Nil Nakshar Shandaney’ in 1982. He later acted on numerous TV dramas. One character ‘Kan Kata Ramjan’ from the drama ‘Shongshoptok’ earned Faridi extreme popularity in the country.

Humayun Faridi starrer popular drama serials are ‘Nil Nakshar Shandhany’, ‘Durbin Die Dekhun’, ‘Bhangoner Shabdha Suni’, ‘Bakulpur Koto Dur’, ‘Dubhuboner Dui Bashinda’, ‘Ekti Laal Shari’, ‘Mohuar Mon’, ‘Shiter Pakhi’, ‘Kothao Keu Nei’ and ‘Prioy Jon Nibash’.

The ‘Montasir Fantasy’, ‘Kirtonkhola’ and ‘Keramot Mongol’ are actor’s popular theatrical plays.

 

Later, he started acting in films where he also earned extreme popularity by bringing a new concept in acting during the 1990s.

Humayun Faridi acted noted films like ‘Hulia’, ‘Dohon’, ‘Shontrash’, ‘Bachelor’, ‘JoyJatra’, ‘Shamolchaya’, ‘Ekattorer Jishu’, ‘Vondo’, ‘Mayer Odhikar’ and ‘Bishaw Premik’ will keep him alive in the hearts of art-loving people of the country.

He was awarded National Film Award in 2004 for his acting in ‘Matritta’.

The legendary actor breathed his last on February 13 in 2012.
