Four construction workers were killed and fourteen others injured in a road accident that took place on the Dhaka-Laxmipur Highway near Polly Bidyut area early Thursday.
The victims were identified as Khorshed Alam, 35, Md Rafik, 55, Mafiz Ullah, 50, and Abul Hossain, 60.
The accident took place around 8:30am as the driver of a pick-up van lost control over the steering after one of tyres of the van exploded and the vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch, leaving three dead on the spot, said Laxmipur Fire service station officer Wasi Azad.
Being informed, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.
Residential Medical Officer of Laxmipur Sadar Hospital Dr Anowar Hossain told BSS correspondent that one of the victims died at the hospital around 11 am while undergoing treatment.
The bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue, he added.
