The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested at least 54 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party while they were holding a meeting at Banani Club on early Monday.
DB Gulshan division deputy commissioner Rifat Rahman Shamim said that most of the arrested were members of BNP’s Munshiganj district units based in Old Dhaka.
‘They were planning to hold anti-government activities,’ the police officer said.
‘We have handed them over to the local police,’ he added.
