The United States will send a team to Bangladesh in early October to assess the pre-polls situation ahead of the next general election.
US ambassador to Dhaka, Peter Haas, said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with chief election commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal at the Election Commission office on Tuesday.
‘I informed him [chief election commissioner] that, in early October, US will send a pre-election monitoring team,’ he said.
He said that the team would comprise of experts from the National Democratic Institute, International Republican Institute, and people with vast experience in election monitoring and election preparations.
The Next general election in Bangladesh is scheduled to be held in December this year or in January next year.
