The president of Islamic University Debating Society died Tuesday evening as she allegedly jumped off the 6th floor of her rented house at Bijoynagar Road under Ashulia police station in Dhaka.
The deceased, Nawrin Nusrat, 22, a student of IU law and land management department under 2017-18 academic session, was the president of Islamic University Debating Society.
According to police and Nusrat’s classmates, Nawrin and her husband, after their marriage on July 21, began to live in the rented house.
Within a few days after their marriage, bitterness began between Nusrat and her husband, they said.
On Tuesday, she locked in an altercation with her husband and, at one stage, jumped off the 6th floor of the house and received critical injuries.
Later, local people rescued Nusrat and took her to Habib Clinic where the attending doctors declared her died.
On information, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, Ashulia police station sub-inspector GM Aslamuzzaman said.
Police detained Nusrat’s husband Ibrahim Khalil for primary interrogation in this connection, the police official said.
She would be buried at the family graveyard in Tangail district on Wednesday afternoon.
