The High Court on Monday asked the chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to remove all statements made by the acting chairman of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party at different times, from social media platforms.
The bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the directive during final hearing of a rule it issued on January 5 in 2015.
The High Court in the rule asked the secretaries of ministries of the foreign affairs, the law, the information and broadcasting, the chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, the inspector general of police to prohibit publicising statements of Tarique Rahman.
Earlier in the morning the court witnessed chaos between lawyers leaning to ruling Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party as the court started hearing of the rule amidst opposition by BNP lawyers.
The BNP lawyers requested the High Court bench to adjourn the hearing until the chief justuce disposed of a petition that sought transfer of the case to other bench.
The High Court bench led by justice Md Khasruzzaman left the courtroom at one stage of the chaos in the courtroom.
Pro-Awami League lawyers told the court that Tariue had seen delivering speeches using online platform at a public rally organised by the BNP on July 28.
AL lawyers argued that Tarique Rahman, a fugitive convict in five criminal cases, cannot deliver speeches in media and any social media platform being an ‘absconding convict.’
