The National University authorities on Saturday announced to defer an examination of third year of degree pass and certificate course from October 2 to November 14.

The NU authorities said that they deferred the examination date due to ‘unavoidable reasons’.

The university authority took the decision after the BCS General Education Association had recently announced to go for work abstention for one day on October 2 across Bangladesh, protesting against inter-cadre discrimination and demanding their promotion.

The association represents all teachers working in the government colleges and madrassahs that offer courses between Class XI and master degree.

The association on Saturday held a press conference at the Dhaka Reporter’s Unity in the capital to press home the same demand.

The NU in a press release also said that the deferred examination would be held on November 14 from 1:30pm.

Other examinations would be held as per schedule, it added.

Leaders of BCS General Education Association on Saturday said that around 50 lakh students were studying in government colleges across the country.

Against them, under BCS education cadre, the number of stationed positions is around 16,000, they said.

They said that new positions were also not being created for the cadre, they continued.

They said that over 7,000 teachers were waiting for promotion for past two years.

They said that they would go for work abstention for three consecutive days between October 10 and 12 across the country if the government failed to meet their demands after observing their programme on October 2.
