The Dhaka University unit leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on locked the entrances of different academic buildings as part of the countrywide two-day blockade programme called by Bangladesh Nationalist Party, partners of onging one-point movement and Jamaat-e-Islami, to realise their one-point demand, including resignation of the Awami League government and release of all political prisoners, including BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Later the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League Dhaka University unit and university administration opened the gates by breaking the locks.
On Sunday morning, JCD men locked Curzon Hall entrance, Food and Nutrition Institute entrance, Arts Building entrance gate neat central Mosque, IER Gate, Fine Arts Gate, 2 gates of Social Welfare Institute, Science Library gate and central playground gate.
JCD Dhaka University unit president Khorshed Alam Sohail and general secretary Ariful Islam led the programme, said JCD DU unit joint secretary Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik.
After getting the information about the lock, BCL leaders and university employees broke it and opened the gate.
JCD DU unit joint secretary Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik said, ‘BNP is carrying out a peaceful blockade programme demanding resignation of government and elections under a non-partisan caretaker government. We are conducting this programme as a part of the blockade.’
‘Students have already boycotted classes and exams expressing solidarity with the. But the university administration and some pro-Awami League teachers are forcing students to take classes and exams,’ he added.
DU Chhatra League general secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat said, ‘Chhatra Dal leaders and activists do not have the courage to enter the university campus openly. They can only enter the campus at the late night or in the early morning to conduct anti-student activities when students are not on the campus.’
‘We are staying on the campus for ensuring security of the students,’ he added.
