Two people died at Dhaka Medical Colege Hospital Thursday morning after there were critically injured in separate incidents of pre-poll violence in Pirojpur and Munshiganj districts.

The deceased are Md Jahangir, 55, of Badura area under Mathbaria upazila in Pirojpur and Dalim Sarkar, 35, of Sadar upazila in Munshiganj district.

Jahangir was a supporter of an independent candidate and Dalim was  a supporter of AL nominated candidate in their areas.

DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia said that Jahangir, a supporter of an independent candidate, who was admitted to the hospital earlier in a critical condition after being injured during a pre-poll violence in Badura area under Mathbaria upazila, died Thursday morning.

New Age correspondent in Munshiganj reports, a supporter of Awami League candidate was shot to death and another injured in an attack allegedly by the supporters of an independent candidate at village Munshikandi under Sadar upazila in Munshiganj district on Thursday.

The deceased is Dalim Sarkar, 35, a supporter of AL-backed candidate Mrinal Kanti Das for Munshiganj-3 constituency.

Locals said that a group of supporters of independent candidate Md Foysal Biplab, led by Shipon Patwari, brother of Mollakandi union chairman Ripon Patwari, stormed into the election camp of ‘boat’ candidate at about 12:30am and opened fire, leaving Dalim injured critically.

The assailants then caught another AL candidate’s supporter, Md Sohel, when he was trying to save Dalim and beat him mercilessly.

Later, injured Dalim and Soheld were taken to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital from where Dalim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his situation deteriorated.

Dalim was declared dead at about 8:00am on  Thursday, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bachchhu Mia.

Munshiganj superintendent of police Mohammad Aslam Khan said that they were trying to arrest the attackers and that additional police were deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward incident.
