JnU authorities urge law enforcers to arrest Amman

The Jagannath University authorities on Saturday urged the law enforcement agencies to arrest its law department student Amman Siddique over the death of Fairuz Abontika, a 13th batch student of the same department.

Fairuz Abontika committed suicide at her village home in Cumilla on Friday night.

Before committing suicide, she posted a status on her Facebook wall where she brought allegations of sexual harassment against her classmates Amman Siddique.

She also accused the university’s assistant proctor Deen Islam of misbehaving with her supporting Amman.

The university authorities on Saturday issued orders regarding suspension of the accused student, and the assistant proctor and formation of a probe committee.

Confirming the news, the university proctor Professor Mohammad Jahangir Hussain told New Age that no case was filed in this connection so far.

‘As far as we know her family is yet to file any case,’ he said.

On Saturday morning, under the banner of Social and Volunteer Organisation Coalition, a section of people held rally at Pubali Chattar at Cummila Sadar demanding justice for Abontika.

A section of students under the banner of general students of Jagannath University are also scheduled to hold a rally on the university campus at 3:00pm on Saturday.

Police were deployed on the campus to tackle any kind of untoward situation.
