A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami League-backed student organisation, was stabbed to death at Moddho Para under Solimabadh union of Nagarpur upazila in Tangail on Monday night.
The victim is Jahid Khan Jhalak, 26, son of Saminur Islam of village Moddho Para of Nagarpur upazila. He was the organising secretary of BCL Nagarpur upazila unit.
Local people and police said that a group of unidentified attackers stabbed Jhalak in front of his house at about 9:30pm. Later, he was taken to Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Nagarpur Police Station officer-in-charge HM Jasim Uddin told New Age that the youth died due to injuries caused by sharp weapons. Police suspect that the BCL leader might have been killed over previous enmity.
Police are trying to arrest the killers, he added.
The victim’s father Saminur Islam filed a case with the Nagarpur police on Tuesday accusing nine people.
Nagarpur police arrested three people in this connection. They are — Rana, 22, Jihad 19, and Emon 19.
The body was sent to 250-bedded Tangail General Hospital for post-mortem examinations
