HC asks AL MP Murshedy to hand over his occupied Gulshan house to govt

The High Court on Tuesday asked ruling Awami League lawmaker Abdus Salam Murshedy to hand over his occupied Gulshan house to the housing and public works ministry in 90 days.

The court observed that Murshedy occupied an abandoned government house  on Road no 104, holding no 29 in the Gulshan Residential Area without releasing it by the court of settlement.

 

The High Court also asked the public works ministry secretary to submit a complaint report to the High Court registrar in 15 days after getting position of the house.

A bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth pronounced the verdict disposing a public interest litigation writ petition filed by lawyer Sayed Sayedul Haque Suman challenging inaction the government authorities in taking action against Murshedy for occupying the government abandoned house.

The High Court also asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to continue with the investigation into a corruption case filed against 11 people for their involvement in transferring the abandoned house to Murshedy in 1990s.

The High further observed that the ACC must take action against any others involved in transferring the house to Murshedy.

Murshedy lawyer Sayeed Ahmed Raza told the court that Murshedy had been living in the house for 30 years after purchasing it from the heirs of deceased Maleka Begum.

Awami League lawmaker and former national footballer Abdus Salam Murshedy is accused of possessing an abandoned house of the government in Gulshan residential area in the capital.

The present market value of the house with 27-kahta land worth around Tk 81 crore, the ACC said.

Murshedy possessed 15 katha and developed a two story building while Ifaat Haque, whose detailed identity could not be known, owned the remaining 12 katha.
