Bangladesh now home to 214 green factories

Bangladesh has achieved remarkable progress in building LEED-certified green factories. With one new factory achieving this feat, the number of green factories in the country increased to 214.

APS Knit Composite Limited, situated in Kamargaon, Pubail of Gazipur Sadar, Gazipur received the gold-rated LEED certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

This impressive lineup includes 80 platinum-rated and 120 gold-rated as well as 10 Silver facilities, underscoring the country’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship, according to a statement of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Sunday.

In 2012, the journey of the first eco-friendly green factory started in the country by the hand of garment industry entrepreneur Sajjadur Rahman Mridha. The factory set up at Ishwardi EPZ in Pabna is ‘Vintage Denim Studio.’ Since then the number of green garment factories has been increasing continuously.
