HC upholds death sentence for 2 in Rubel murder case

The High Court (HC) on Monday upheld a lower court verdict, sentencing two persons to death in a case lodged over murder of one electrician named Rubel in 2010.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Krishna Debnath and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed the order, upholding death sentence for murders Rubel and Roni Biswas. The court also dropped name of another person, convicted by the lower court, as he has already died.

Rubel was killed in a room of Hotel Shah Kamal in Old Dhaka on June 6, 2010. His body was later hidden somewhere else. Rubel’s brother Moron Miah filed the case with Sutrapur Police Station.

Dhaka 5th Special Judge Court on December 23, 2014, sentenced Rubel, Roni Biswas and Ruman to death. Of the three, Ruman died in jail, while the other two convicts filed appeals against their conviction.
